Truly French
Welcome to our blog
We’re delighted to welcome you to our new blog: Truly French.
To understand the history of lingerie is to understand some of the most important socio-cultural changes in women’s history and fashion. Our member brands, which share a cultural heritage of savoir-faire that goes back centuries, have been at the forefront of these changes since the inception of the corset.
“Lingerie is
also a window into our relationship to ourselves.”
In fact, corsetry was pioneered in France. In its heyday, corsets designed and
made in France were so extensively lauded that one reporter noted: “The French
corset, or, better put, the corset of Paris, enjoys a certain renown and
prestige abroad, one that our manufacturers will be able to maintain for a long
time.” French dominance prevailed as the corset gave way to everything from the
bra and the “girdle that doesn’t creep,” to the revolution of Lycra,
stretch fabrics, and the expansive array of stellar lingerie currently on the
market.
But lingerie is also a window into our relationship to ourselves : to our
bodies and to our secrets of seduction. No wonder lingerie is also called «
intimates. »
Imitation is sincerest form of
flattery.
Just as real champagne comes from the French region of Champagne, so, too, does
real French lingerie hail from the ateliers of French designers. And just as
champagne has its many imitators, so, too, does French lingerie: Many brands on
the market have French-sounding names, but only those that are truly designed
in France can claim to be truly French. Thus, the name of our blog.
France has always been - and remains – a capital of fashion and the gold
standard for quality. Through Truly French, we’ll bring you lingerie news and
updates on our brands, as well as insights into the cultural heritage that
continues to shape lingerie trends of the future. Bonne lecture!
