Why Blue is the New Black

Why Blue is the New Black

Blue is the only color which maintains its own character in all its tones... it will always stay blue. -Raoul Dufy, French Fauvist Painter

Yes, we know: Black beret, little black dress, black capris – everything French and fashionable is black. Except – wait: there is no color in the world as exhilarating as French blue: those shades of ultramarine, lapis lazuli, electric indigo and cobalt blue that grace French doors, shutters, and windows.

The color of sky and sea, French blue is the quintessence of all colors and thus eternally classic - as classic as black, but with a radiant luminescence that's come to embody a range of emotions and strengths: Dark blue is associated with trust, dignity, intelligence, and authority; light blue is associated with peace, serenity, spirituality and infinity. And while you can have the blues, blue is still the only color that calms the body and mind.

Thus, this season black continues to cede to the preeminence of the world's favorite color.  “ It overshadowed every other trend indicator and permeated every single collection preview," opined Ellen Lewis of Lingerie Briefs. "No doubt it has do with the fact that blue, all shades of it, is the most popular color in the world.”
